The Mission

Build a new structure.

Easier said than done. It’s not about shaking the table, but building a new one. When it comes to mainstream media and Black stories, there is a lack of access and resources for Black creatives (especially Black woman creatives). When you do get that access, you are often put in a position to filter, over-explain, or dilute experiences in order to snag that first check.

Pursuing anything creative is never a straight line and navigating your own path can be a lonely one. I created this non-profit based on my experiences of becoming a filmmaker—to provide to others what I desperately needed. I want Black creatives to feel empowered to pursue their filmmaking goals in order to build confidence in their careers while staying true to their voice.

KOSINIMA is here to support honest storytelling. We need more safe spaces for creative freedom. Start small, build together. Let’s begin.
